Partners boost success
Editor's mailbag
By To the editor:-
Our three educational partners — The Jay School Corporation, Indiana Wesleyan University and Ivy Tech State College — have contributed significantly to John Jay Center for Learning. Without their consultation and generous financial contributions, it would not have been possible to move this initiative to its current level.
Ivy Tech has conducted 107 classes over the past two years utilizing 34 faculty members. Of these faculty members, 15 reside in Jay County.
Indiana Wesleyan University has conducted an Associate of Science in Business Degree program, a Bachelor of Science in Business Degree program and has a Masters of Business Administration Degree program in process. In addition, Indiana Wesleyan has facilitated two professional development classes for teachers in the Jay School Corporation and the surrounding corporations.
The Jay School Corporation has provided JJCL with classroom space, administrative collaboration and the ABE/GED (Adult Basic Education/General Equivalency Diploma) programs for high school dropouts. Over the past two years, this program has enrolled 227 students — 75 of these students have gone on to attain their GED diplomas.
So “thanks partners.” Without you there would be no John Jay Center for Learning.
Currently (this fall session), we have 270 students that have registered for 400 college credit classes at the John Jay Center for Learning. A total of over 1,000 students have taken college credit and GED classes since we opened our doors, Aug. 1, 2001.
