Pastor says thank you (08/14/2008)

To the editor:

I would like to thank the people of Portland and surrounding areas for their love and giving to the flood victims in and around Martinsville, Ind.

Pastor Mike Murrell is the pastor of the Evangelistic Methodist Church down there and had nine families affected by the floods. Two families lost everything.

Pastor Mike used to pastor the Evangelistic Methodist Church here in Portland and comes to our church, The River of Life Church, to preach our homecoming every August.

When Pastor Mike came this year we were able to present him with a large sum of money to help those families. Thanks to those who came to our bazaar and bake sale and to those who made generous donations, and to all who gave a love offering during our Homecoming. We were able to send $1,023.70.

I got a letter from Pastor Mike today once again expressing his, and his church's, appreciation for what the people in this community did for them.

Once again I want to say thank you and God bless you to all who opened up their hearts and wallets to help God's people.
