Patriot fans express pride in their team (03/31/06)
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
I’m stationed here in Iraq, following the coverage of my hometown team in the news — whatever I can find. the JCHS boys basketball team should hold its head high; they lost a game, but won so many other things.
Watching all this transpire over the last two months has helped raise my own spirits — in spite of where I am. So tell them to be proud.

Patriot praise
To the editor:
I want to sing my praises to the Jay County basketball team and fans.
I had listened to parts of a couple of the regular season games, and had definitely tuned in to the radio to hear the last half of the game against Plymouth a week or so ago, but I had never seen the boys actually play until Saturday night (in the state championship game).
I had the good fortune of being able to watch that game at my friend’s daughter’s home.
Let me tell you, I was impressed with the style of play that the Patriots put out.
We may have gotten beaten point-wise by New Castle, but our boys outclassed the other team by far.
Congratulations to Tyler Rigby, the whole team and the coaches. Keep up the good work.
Sincerely,
Sally Conwell

Patriot proud
To the editor:
I just finished reading the article about the Jay County Patriots (March 27) and I was very proud of the Patriots. I watched the game on TV and was elated with the great play of the Patriots.
I am a 1959 graduate of Portland High School. I was not involved in sports, since I was employed at The Commercial Review/Graphic during my last two years in high school.
I read your webpage (www.the-cr.com) every day to get the happenings in Portland and Jay County.
Sincerely,
Lew Gillespie
Craft thanks
To the editor:
The Tri Kappa Sorority held its annual craft show on Saturday, March 11, with much success.
Tri Kappa says thank you to the vendors who attended the show, with each of them doing a fantastic job displaying their crafts and talents.
Tri Kappa would also like to thank those who helped make this show possible: Tom Ferguson with Jay County High School; Barry Weaver and his gym classes; and Lea Selvey and the Jay County High School baseball team.
These groups were so helpful to the vendors by carrying their items to the various booths.
The girl scouts helped clean the lunch tables; also, the Beta Sigma Phi chapter of Hartford City for their bake sale.
Lastly, to the Jay School Corporation and its employees for the use of the high school.
Without the help from all of you, this show wouldn’t have been possible. Again, Tri Kappa says, “thank you.”
We look forward to seeing you in 2007.
