FORT RECOVERY — It was a great night to be Chase Paxson.
It was not such a great night to be the Fort Recovery Indians.
The Minster quarterback completed 10-of-13 passes for 213 yards and gained another 117 yards rushing. He passed for one touchdown and ran for two more as he led the Wildcats to a 35-7 win that dampened Fort Recovery’s homecoming celebration.
Minster (2-4, 2-2 Midwest Athletic Conference) racked up 461 yards of offense — a good chunk of it thanks to Paxson — while holding the Indians to 177.
Kenny Wenning led the Tribe (2-4, 0-4 MAC) offensively, rushing for 37 yards and completing 5-of-12 passes for 51 yards. Jason Pottkotter rushed for 31 yards and completed 1-of-2 passes for 11 yards. Brian Keller rushed for 28 yards.
But it was pretty much all Minster, with Fort Recovery’s only TD coming in the fourth quarter when the Wildcat starters were resting on the bench.
Paxson drew the first blood of the night with 4:12 on the clock in the first quarter when he scampered for 59 yards and a touchdown. Then with time running out in the second quarte,r Paxson hit Daniel Gusching with a pass good for 43 yards and the second Minster TD of the night.
The Wildcats came out fired up in the third quarter, with Paxson scoring on a 1-yard run with 8:17 on the clock. And less than two minutes later, Minster’s Adam Niemeyer hit Derek Collin with a pass good for 57 yards and another touchdown. Zach Holacher wrapped up the big quarter for the Wildcats with a 2-yard touchdown run with 22 seconds on the clock.
Devon Poeppelman made all five of his extra-point attempts for the Wildcats.
Fort Recovery’s sole TD of the night came with 9:17 on the clock in the fourth quarter on a Pottkotter pass to Derek Gaerke. Aaron Vagedes made the extra point.[[In-content Ad]]
