Pay cuts should start at the top
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
Republicans promote Gov. Daniels’ request from the state’s teachers for “excellence and results.” Please request the same of politicians.
Perhaps President Obama should ask federal employees and legislators the same.
How much has Congress accepted to reduce their pay to help with the national debt? Start reducing the pay scale at the top then maybe they will realize just a bit of what the unemployed have to get along on.
I could live well on state legislators’ per diem of $1,060 per week.
Enough said for this time.

To the editor:
The Pennville-Penn Township Library would like to thank the Women’s Giving Circle and The Portland Foundation for their grant to fund our after-school reading club that is held in conjunction with Pennville Elementary School.
The goal of this program, which is aimed at children in grades K-2, is to foster a life-long love of reading.
The program beings April 8 and runs until the end of the school year. The end date is timed to encourage young readers to utilize the library over the summer months.
The funding from the Women’s Giving Circle and Portland Foundation will allow us to purchase craft items, snacks and books for the participants. The children in this program benefit immeasurably from the generosity of the women that participate in the giving circle and the foundation, and their efforts on behalf of the Jay County community are greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Brenda Cash, library director; Tammy Hanlin, library board president, and Toni Vinson, library board secretary[[In-content Ad]]
