Payment made on highway picture (10/09/07)

Jay County Commissioners made the first payment on the two-year lease of a 2007 New Holland T7040 tractor for the Jay County Highway Department Monday afternoon.

Commissioners paid $25,000 on the $69,125.60 tractor, said Jay County Auditor Freda Corwin.

Also Monday, commissioners received an application from Dale Schwieterman, a Portland resident, for a 10-year loan from the county for the installation of a septic system at a property he owns in Pike Township.

Corwin said Schwieterman must get three price quotes from companies for installation of the system.

After that is completed, commissioners will hold a hearing to determine whether or not to loan Schwieterman the money for the septic system.

Jay County established a septic system loan fund several years ago to assist residents who are unable to obtain conventional financing for the systems.[[In-content Ad]]
