Pence makes local campaign stop (10/25/06)
By By JACK RONALD-
"It's going to be a challenging year," Rep. Mike Pence (R-6th District) said repeatedly to well-wishers and supporters Tuesday morning while making a campaign swing through Portland.
Visiting on behalf of State Rep. Bill Davis (R-Portland) who faces a challenge from former State Rep. Ron Liggett of Redkey, Pence is opposed in the November election by Democrat Barry Walsh.
Pence spoke briefly on a number of issues while visiting shops and touring the restoration project at the Weiler Building.
On the war in Iraq: "My hopes are we will stand by the Iraqi people who have chosen freedom....There is a determined enemy on the ground there."
On immigration reform: "Border security is a necessary but insufficient solution....We have to marry border security with the next phase, which is a no-amnesty guest worker program....We've got to get the work done, meeting the needs of the economy within the rule of law."[[In-content Ad]]
