Pennville gets big fire grant
A local fire department has been granted $133,055 to purchase new turnout gear.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded $133,055 to the Pennville Fire Department through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. Some of the gear that will be replaced is about 20 years old.
The grant funds will be used to purchase 33 sets of turnout gear, an industrial-size washer and dryer to clean the gear and storage racks for the gear.

Turnout gear includes hoods, jackets, boots, gloves, pants, helmets and a self-contained breathing apparatus.
Jay Emergency Medical Service also was awarded a $3,420 Assistance to Firefighters grant.
State law recently changed to allow emergency medical agencies to apply for the grant, since EMTs often work so closely with firefighters, said Jay County Emergency Management director Ralph Frazee.[[In-content Ad]]
