Pet refuge asks for support
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
We are so pleased to tell you about the creation of Midwest Pet Refuge.
This organization is comprised of many members who have a passion for animals and a desire to fill a need in our community. The mission of Midwest Pet Refuge is to ensure that animals in our area are given the opportunity to have access to a safe and nurturing environment. This mission is achieved through the use of rescues, foster homes and supportive services to pet owners. These services include educational opportunities to increase pet owner’s understanding of the importance of spaying/neutering, pet needs and behaviors, as well as efforts to link pet owners to needed resources. We strive to ensure that all pets have the chance to live in loving homes. This is accomplished through carefully connecting pets with appropriate forever homes.
Midwest Pet Refuge consists of many motivated community embers, including Carol Pfeifer, MPR board president, Glenda Clay, vice president, Jenni VanSkyock, secretary, Tina Cavanaugh, treasurer, Doug Wright, Christy Dean, Heather Jones and Julie Snyder.
In an effort to assemble the most passionate and experienced group possible, we also rely on input from Tara Drumm, MPR board advisor, and several other individuals who share our mission and vision to create a refuge for animals in need. We have a combination of more than 50 years of animal rescue and welfare experience from our board and members such as Dosha Rector, Karlie Geesy, Beckie Paxson, Tina Cummins and many more.
While this project is a massive undertaking and will take some time to achieve our vision, this process is well underway. Recently, we began the process of filing for 501(c)3 status, have registered our organization with the state and are working on articles of organization. We are taking time to develop a structurally sound organization that achieves our mission and practices in an ethical manner.
We have vision for Midwest Pet Refuge that, once realized, will serve to meet the needs of animals in our communities and surrounding communities. Our goal is to obtain a facility large enough to house an animal rescue and provide services that will benefit current pet owners. We understand the enormity of the task ahead, and while we work to achieve this dream we intend to provide foster, adoption and education services as well as other resources on a smaller scale. In the short time we have been in operation, we have fostered three cats, two of which have been adopted, provided dog houses and bedding to three animals in need and started the process of educating the public on our Facebook page. This is a highly motivated and passionate group of individuals, and with the support of our community we are sure to succeed.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions at www.facebook.com/midwestpetrefuge, [email protected] or Midwest Pet Refuge, P.O. Box 1072, Portland 47371.
Thanks in advance for your support.
Sincerely,
Midwest Pet Refuge
