Pitts' views are of no interest

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:
The Zimmerman/Martin trial has, of late, drawn a lot of attention both nationally and locally.
Since it was race engendered, one would naturally expect columnist Leonard Pitts Jr. to expound on the topic. I see Mr. Pitts as nothing more than an educated and racist columnist.
In his article "We see ourselves in Trayvon" published in the July 25th issue of the Commercial Review we note a few excerpts.
He states that Mr. Obama said, "I am Trayvon Martin." He states that is what African-Americans have been telling other Americans since the tragedy occurred. He also states "I am Trayvon, too".
It would appear that both Mr. Obama and Mr. Pitts were trying to make a point that this was a racially motivated confrontation that ended in tragedy for a young boy. You will note that I said young boy and not African American. I, personally, do not care for the differentiation of ethnic backgrounds.
We are all Americans with ethnic backgrounds and should be proud of those roots without constantly bringing attention to ourselves as if we had low self esteem.

The constant attention the black community brings upon itself by their actions makes them suspect and subject to racial profiling. They are racially profiled for a reason and they have brought it upon themselves.
The truth is that if Zimmerman had been black we would not have had a trial at all. It probably would have been noted that he was set upon by a white racist and Florida's "Stand Your Ground Law" would not come under scrutiny.
Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton should be ecstatic over these events. It gives them the opportunity to light their own candle and decry the racial inequities imposed upon their race by white supremacist Americans. Mr. Pitts should also remain thankful that his "African-Americans" place themselves in these situations. It gives him a chance to practice his true calling as a defender of the downtrodden black race.
The real question here is why the editor of the Commercial Review would consider entering this in this small town newspaper. I can only think of two reasons — the entry is paid for or you think it is news worthy.
I sincerely doubt that very many readers are interested in Mr. Pitts views.
