Planning unit reviews progress in 2005 (01/20/06)
Jay/Portland Building and Planning Board
By By RACHELLE HAUGHN-
New accomplishments in Portland and Jay County — including one by the head of the Jay/Portland Building and Planning Department — were discussed Thursday morning.
Members of the Jay/Portland Building and Planning Board met Thursday and discussed the 2005 annual report and an accomplishment by building and planning administrator Bill Milligan.
In 2005, Milligan became a certified residential building inspector. He received his certification from the International Code Council and the State of Indiana. To earn this certification, he took one class a month for a year, and had to pass a test.
Milligan has been the administrator for about seven years.
The board also discussed the annual report.
The report — which includes Portland, Salamonia and unincorporated areas of Jay County — shows that construction values in 2005 totaled $24 million.
The value of construction values nearly doubled over the previous year. Approximately one-third of the total value of 2005 projects ($8 million) was the Wal-Mart SuperCenter currently under construction on Portland’s northwest side.
Also Thursday, the board re-appointed Bob McCreery as president of the board, and named Gayle Davenport as recording secretary.
Citizen board member Shauna Runkle also was re-appointed.[[In-content Ad]]
