Plenty to do this weekend
Editorial
Finish that last cup of coffee or that bowl of Wheaties.
The weather may not be perfect, but there’s a full agenda of activities available this weekend that should get any couch potato moving.
Loblolly Days is continuing in Bryant today and Sunday, with the big parade set for noon.
It’s always amazing to see the Marching Patriots squeeze their way down such a narrow street in Bryant’s downtown.
Meanwhile, the first-ever Civil War re-enactment weekend is continuing at Ambassador Park and the Fort Site in Fort Recovery. There will be a couple of vintage baseball games today, and battle re-enactments today at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 2:15 p.m.
The fort has been the site of past gatherings of re-enactors, and they’re always fun. Organizers are expecting a good crowd and have hopes of making the September Civil War event a fixture on the local calendar.
As if that’s not enough, today’s the day for the biggest collectible car auction in Jay County history, south of Portland on U.S. 27 almost at the Jay-Randolph line.
Want more? Berne’s Heritage Festival is taking place this weekend at Swiss Heritage Village.
And if you’d rather do something indoors, the new Jay County Jail will be open for public tours from noon to 4 p.m. today and Sunday. It’s an impressive facility — starkly secure, no frills, and safer for both the inmates and the community.
It all boils down to the fact that there’s plenty to choose from.
