Poem for those who have served
Editor's mailbag

To the editor:
I wish to dedicate this poem to the many brave men and women who have either served or who are serving our country proudly.
May God bless them and their families. Our country would not be what she is today without them. I thank you for your dedicated service.

Old Glory
In many places, Old Glory can be found
Waving fervently across a blue sky,
From a flagpole in the countryside, a city, or town
In a lowly valley or on a mountaintop high.
Old Glory waves proudly, even when tattered and torn,
Throughout the world and throughout the lands.
On many uniforms, a symbol of Old Glory is worn.
A symbol of freedom is for what she stands.
Old Glory has been around for well over 200 years.
She has withstood time; she has withstood opposition.
She’s watched as her patriots shed their blood, their tears
And sacrificed their lives for this great nation.
By other names, Old Glory is well known.
The Starts and Stripes or the Red, White and Blue.
She’s a precious sight wherever she’s flown.
She deserves honor and respect that’s forever true.
Old Glory’s colors will never run.
She will remain steadfast and true, when even tried.
There is nothing that her people cannot overcome,
As long as they allow God to be their True Guide.
So, pledge your allegiance and united we will stand.
For, God has blessed our home of the brave, our land of the free.
And for democracy and freedom Old Glory will always defend
Throughout this land from sea to shining sea.
Always hold Old Glory dear to your heart.
Give praise to God for protecting her.
Give thanks to those who did thair part
When defending her by land, by sea, by air.
Thank God for Old Glory and constantly pray
For the freedom she represents to each woman, child and man.
And when you see her displayed on any given day,
Salute her and be proud that you are an American.
