Police: Thanks for help (12/16/2008)
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
On Dec. 6, Portland police officers, reserves, and the Portland Police Citizens Academy alumni met up with 20 local children at Portland Walmart to participate in the second annual Shop with a Cop. Funds were raised to support this program through various fundraisers.
We would like to take this opportunity to once again thank our sponsors who made this year's event possible: Portland Walmart for their community grant, and the following hole sponsors - Chief Robert Sours, The Greazy Pickle, Progressive Office Products, First Bank of Berne-Portland Banking Center, Ohio Valley Gas, Jay County Beverage, FCC (Indiana), Portland Insurance Agency, POET Biorefining, Family Practice of Jay County, Sertech Heating and Cooling, and the Tire Center.
Thanks also to all of the teams who participated in our golf outing and to all the businesses that donated prizes or money as well as all of the people who made a donation to our golf ball drop.
We would also like to extend a huge thanks to Lutheran Air and the Portland Golf Club for their participation in our golf ball drop.
Thanks also to Denise Brewster from the Wayne Township Trustee's office and Kay Strausburg from Angel Tree for allowing us to select children from the Angel Tree program.
This program could not be possible without the support of area businesses and individuals who help support our fundraisers and we look forward to hosting this event in the coming years.
Many thanks,
Angie Nichols, for
Portland Police reserves
and the Portland Police
Citizens Academy
Thanks

The board of directors of the Pennville Community Center would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that contributes to the United Way. The Pennville Community Center has been a part of the United Way since its inception in Jay County and could not operate without the funds the United Way passes on from its contributors.
The Pennville Community Center was constructed in 1969 for the purpose of providing a meeting place for the youth groups of Pennville - Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and 4-H. Because of the United Way, the Pennville Lions Club and our patron renters, we have been doing that for 39 years and hope to continue for many more.
We also extend a special thanks to those that earmarked their United Way donation to go to the Pennville Community Center: Gloria Clark, Janet Horn, George McGinnis, and Carl and Marilyn Walker.
Sincerely,
Steve Drinkut,
secretary, Pennville
