Polls open on Tuesday (11/01/2008)
By By MIKE SNYDER-
One of the most active political seasons in memory will culminate Tuesday when those who haven't already voted will go to the polls in Jay County and across the country.
The top of the ticket, with Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama running for president, has certainly drawn the bulk of attention.
But also on the ballot in Jay County will be federal, state and county-level offices, along questions regarding retention of several state judges and a referendum on Jay County's request to issue bonds for a $10 million jail project.
One of the most active local races has been for state representative, where incumbent Republican Bill Davis faces a challenge from Democrat Andy Schemenaur.
Both candidates have run an active campaign featuring frequent mailers, and plenty of advertising in newspapers, radio and television.
Polls Tuesday will open at 6 a.m. and close at 6 p.m.
As of Friday morning, about 13 percent of Jay County's 12,096 registered voters had already cast ballots in early voting.
Those wishing to vote early may do so at the Jay County Courthouse today from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Monday from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
Included on the ballot are races for U.S. Representative (District 6), governor, retention votes for Indiana Supreme Court, Appellate Court and Indiana Tax Court justices, state attorney general, superintendent of public instruction, state representative, Judge of the Superior Court, Circuit Court Clerk, county treasurer, county coroner, county surveyor, county commissioner (north and south district), county council (at-large), Jay School Board (districts 1, 4 and 6) and the jail referendum.[[In-content Ad]]President and Vice President
