Postmaster: Thanks for food drive
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
Employees of the Portland officer of the U.S. Postal Service would like to thank local residents for their generous donations to the Helping Hand Food Bank during our annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive conducted in May.
Many thanks to MainStreet Market for donating the bags used to collect nonperishable food items and to Pizza Hut for donating pizzas on the day of the drive for all of the volunteers.
Thanks to all current and retired postal employees and their families who volunteered their time to help collect, weigh and load items into the Community and Family Services truck.
Thanks to Carly Nichols at CFS for her assistance coordinating transportation of the donated items to the local pantry, as well as helping collect donations throughout Portland.
Due to the generosity of all those mentioned, we were able to collect more than 5,200 pounds of food to be used right here in Jay County, making this drive one of the most successful in recent years.
