Praise for flood work
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
Shelly and I would like to thank the mayor, the City of Portland and its employees for the great job they did in handling the flood.
This is the third flood we have witnessed since 1991 and by far the teamwork amongst everyone was superb. I don’t know what time they started working Monday morning, but all day they worked their butts off. When the water went down and we started to clean up on Tuesday, there they were helping pick up sand bags and water-logged carpet.
We are very thankful that we did not receive any damage in either of our downtown buildings although the water was a couple of feet high on the sand bags. When the water was approaching, here came the city with sand bags. Thanks men!
Since we did not receive damage, we are focusing on helping those who need help. So, here we are … use us.

Twenty-five years ago, Jay County High School Drama Department presented the Pulitzer Prize-winning play, “Our Town.”
On May 20-22, 2011 Jay County Civic Theatre, Inc. and JCHS Thespians will be presenting “Our Town” by Thornton Wilder at Jay County High School. This innovative production will use both adult and high school actors and technicians.
Events after the show will be planned Friday and Saturday nights as well as JCHS Thespians hosting a banquet Sunday, May 22, 2011 inviting alumni from both groups.
Our goal is to have JCHS Theatre Alumni and former JCCT, Inc. cast & crewmembers present at the banquet. We are asking for assistance finding JCHS Theatre Alumni.
We are asking alumni to contact Carol Knarr, JCHS Theatre Director at [email protected] or (260)726-9306 or Tim Morris, JCCT Treasurer at [email protected] or (260)726-8002.
