Praise given for courthouse decorations (11/24/06)

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

Thank you Sue McBride.

Every resident of Jay and surrounding counties should take the time this holiday season and visit the Jay County Courthouse to see this wonderful vision of Christmas with lights and decorations.

Sue has worked for many weeks making our courthouse a beautiful vision. She has decorated every stairway, every light, a 12-foot tree in the rotunda, a tree for the First Nazarene Church in memory of Fran Milthaler, our late Jay County Treasurer, and yes, even the commissioners' room.

Fourteen local not-for-profit organizations decorated Christmas trees to add to this beautiful building that we, as Jay County residents, are very proud of and residents have been voting for the best decorated tree.

If you see Sue, be sure to thank her, or better yet, send her a thank you card.

Sue's husband, Roger, is custodian at the courthouse, but he will be the first to tell you that this art of beauty is Sue's creation.

Poaching

To the editor:

This letter is for the person or persons that shot the young male deer that was living with cattle on county road 200 West, between county road 200 South and Mt. Pleasant Road.

The deer was probably orphaned at an early age and took up with the cattle, and you shot the deer in the middle of the night.

That in itself is poaching. You know who you are and you know what you are.

Great show

To the editor:

My husband Glen and I saw the Jay County High School drama production last night (Nov. 18) called, "The Boys Next Door," by Tom Griffin.

Directed by theatre arts instructor Emmett Bales and student Lauren Whitesell, it concerned four young men, each of whom was physically and/or mentally challenged. What a downer, one might say.

But, although thought-provoking and terribly sad at times, it was mostly touching and delightful.

Especially poignant were the scenes when the players imagined themselves as healthy and whole, allowing the audience to see them that way also.

Congratulations to Mr. Bales for having the courage and insight to choose the play.

And thanks to the students on cast and crew for providing truly wonderful - and educational - entertainment.

Sincerely

Bev Priest
