Premer files for council as deadline nears (02/17/06)
As the noon deadline for filing for the May 2, primary election neared, several residents added their names to the ballot today.
Another former Jay County Council member filed to try to regain a seat on the council and the Democrat candidates vying for one of two seats on the Redkey Town Council grew to six.
Republican Mary L. Premer, 424 South Ind. 1, Dunkirk, filed Thursday in Jay County Clerk Jane Ann Runyon’s office to seek her party’s nomination for the District 2 seat that represents Knox, Penn, Greene, Jackson, Bearcreek, and Wabash townships.
The seat is currently held by Jack Houck who is not seeking reelection, but instead is running for commissioner of the middle district.
Former Jay County Commissioner, Michael L. Leonhard, has also filed as a Republican to land the District 2 council seat.
Redkey resident, Charles Noble, added his name to the list of those hoping to gain a Redkey council seat.
Noble, a resident of 123 S. Meridian St., joins five other Democrats who want a chance at the job.
Others filing for the primary since Thursday were:
•Todd Lee Hummer, 445 E. Votaw St., Portland, Wayne 3 Democrat precinct committeeman.
•Lisa Barnett, 2338 East 200 North, Portland, Wayne 5 Democrat precinct committeeman.
•Robbie D. Ray, 5748 North 650 West, Pennville, Democrat, Penn Township Trustee.
•Joseph Alan Lloyd, 304 N. Meridian St., Redkey, Democrat, Richland Township Advisory Board.
•Doug Geesaman, 9137 West 500 North, Pennville, Republican, Penn Township Advisory Board.
•Victor McEwen, 145 N. Union St., Pennville, Republican, Penn Township Advisory Board.
•Richard Nixon, 3790 South Mt. Pleasant Road, Portland, Democrat, Jefferson Township Advisory Board.
•Carey A. Brunswick, Democrat, 5298 East 400 North, Portland, Bearcreek Township Trustee.[[In-content Ad]]
