Editor's mailbag
To the editor:
In preparation for our annual display celebrating historic Jay County architecture, Headwaters Heritage is requesting local farm families who live on Century Farms to contact us.
We need farm histories, old photographs to borrow or copy, and small artifacts to create our exhibit at the Jay County Public Library. Please contact Heather Steed at (765) 369-3087 after 6:30 p.m.
Exhibit items are needed by May 2, 2003, for the celebration of National Historic Preservation Week May 12-17.
A special workshop and slide show of the historic Fulton Homes District in Portland, located east of Meridian Street between Arch and Main Street, will offered free to the public on Thursday, May 8 at 6:30 p.m. at White Linen Hall.
Residents of this district or persons who have information about the history of these homes are welcome to submit details to be included in this workshop by calling Heather Steed by May 2.
We would also like to extend an invitation to the public to join us for our second Home Tour and Garden Walk on Saturday, June 14, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
We are currently seeking financial supporters to be featured in our tour brochure.
The mission of Headwaters Heritage is to encourage and educate the citizens of Jay County to appreciate, maintain and preserve our unique architectural heritage for future generations.
We are a not-for-profit group and the above events will encourage public awareness, bring people out to see our historic treasures, and serve as our only fund-raiser this year.
For more information about Headwaters Heritage and these activities, please call Sandy Bubp at (260) 726-9871.
