Problems again in Redkey

Editor's Mailbag

By To the editor:-

Redkey strikes again as the little town with big problems. Does Redkey make its own laws or is it that some people think that they are the law?

I have spent numerous hours of reserve training for this little town. If anyone knows what that involves; it means many hours with no pay. You give up your personal time in order to learn a job to provide a service for your town in order to be turned away. So what if I have volunteered my time at car shows, carnivals, helping with weekend duties and assisting in the arrests of drug dealers and drunk drivers. That isn't important.

Should the job of deputy marshal go to someone that has no training in the field whatsoever? It happened in Redkey. So what if I already have arrest powers and completed the pre-basic law course? It doesn't matter.

The job went to someone that has no previous law enforcement training, has not completed the pre-basic course, has not spent the time patrolling the streets of Redkey, and has not spent time sitting in on the town board meetings in order to learn what is going on in town and how it is run.

What I am wondering is if it boils down to the sex of the applicants and not the qualifications. Why would a experienced female not be considered but an inexperienced male be hired?

Why is it that a female marshal was fine when the town was in a crunch, but now that she has retired from her position she is being ridiculed for being a female in a man’s job, when the same people help to put her in as marshal?

Why has it been said that it about time someone for the police department has been hired that can take a punch to the face? Let me explain something to you. I served my country in The United States Navy; I gave birth to three children; I have taken and passed my physical tactics course and am taking judo classes at this time.

I think that a punch in the face is the least of my worries. Would men like to be told that they couldn't perform a job because they didn't have a strong sensitive side or were not nurturing enough? Do equal rights for women stop between the city limit signs?

Does the constitution of the United States only count in towns where there is more than one traffic signal? How can Redkey run a police department when only one of the three employed have arrest powers?

I believe that Redkey should brush up on some of their state laws and statutes. Maybe the equal opportunity employment act is where they could start.

A little town does not have to mean that they can be big on ignorance.
