Program in Fort schools gets $60,000 (12/13/07)
Fort Recovery School Board
An engineering program in its second year at Fort Recovery High School recently received a $60,000 grant.
Announced at Tuesday's Fort Recovery Local School Board meeting, this grant will fund part of the purchase of a $50,000 robot for the Project Lead the Way program, additional training for PLTW instructor Norm Leugers and additional supplies and materials.
The robot is a smaller scale of those used in manufacturing.
PLTW currently offers four courses and will be offering a new course, computer integrated manufacturing, beginning in August.
If students participate in all four years of PLTW they could graduate high school with 16 college credit hours in engineering, Fort Schools superintendent David Riel said Wednesday.
A summer PLTW program for middle school students is also offered.
Also Wednesday, Riel told board members that the Ohio School Facilities Commission plans to take another look at the possible construction work at the high school.
Riel said that additional community meetings may be planned for the project but those have not been scheduled.
In other business, board members:
•Heard that Abby Backs, Joey Gonzalez, Diane Post, Alison Koch and David Tobe were named the spelling bee winners in the school district. The county spelling bee will be held Feb. 4.
•Accepted resignations from elementary school teacher Jennifer Grieshop and preschool teacher Jamie Albers.
•Approved the employment of Marcia Schmitz as a substitute teacher.[[In-content Ad]]
