Progress for sewer district
Jay County Regional Sewer District
The Jay County Regional Sewer District could be less than a month away from closing on its financial package nearly nine months after awarding contracts for three sewer installations.
Wayne Bailey of Commonwealth Engineers said Monday afternoon that closing documents have been prepared by the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development office in Columbus, Ohio, and returned to Indianapolis.
Rural development is now looking at setting a closing date for the funding package, which will allow the sewer district to install its three sewer lines — one southwest of Portland in the Foxfire Drive and Ind. 67 area, one north of Dunkirk in the Skeens Addition along county road 1150 West and one on Dunkirk’s south side in the Willow Drive and Arlington Avenue area.
“We’re closer than we’ve ever been before,” Bailey said.
Bailey said he doesn’t expect the oft-delayed project to hit any more snafus at this point.
The sewer projects were originally bid in September and came in at a combined $748,472.03. The project cost will be split 45 percent grant and 55 percent loan through the Rural Development funding package.
The selected contractors are Tumbush Construction, Saint Henry, Ohio, for the Foxfire project; CSU Inc., Plainfield, for the Skeens Addition project; and Watson Excavating, Inc., Redkey, for the Willow Drive project.
As of the last district meeting in February, board members reported that the contractors were still willing to hold to the prices they bid.[[In-content Ad]]
