Protest made on 911 fee hike
Letters to the Editor
In regards to a recent article titled 911 fees hiked, some information is clearly missing from the argument that Sheriff Newton is making in his case for 911 emergency fees to be hiked. In the annual financial report for 2009 in the county of Jay, line item 1156 emergency telephone system had a beginning cash fund balance of $263,867.07.
That’s obviously a carry over from 2008 ending balance in this line item. There were receipts of $173,180.36 and disbursements of $362,435.32 with no explanation of where the monies came from or went to. Also, if government were running their books properly, there shouldn’t be carryovers on any line items from year to year. It’s too easy for any government to fleece the people financially and they know it. You can move money around to make it look like you have a fund shortage, then raise taxes like 911 fees and increase revenue under the table when there’s no need for it in the first place.
Government is subject to the people not the other way around. The statutory laws have corruption in mind and have accomplished it very well with money and control over the people, Government has absolute power that needs to be checked at the door.
I hereby object based on grounds of improper jurisdiction by the government. Repeal the 911 fee hike.

To the editor:
Being the youngest of four brothers and two brothers-in-law, all who served in the military in World War II and the Korean War, I have some comments to make on this Veterans Day of 2010.
•The time change: I hate it with a passion. If our governor is for the people, why did he not let the people decide the issue by voting? Our schoolchildren, in March, will have to go back into darkness for a few days after being in the daylight for a few days. In 2008 a college professor predicted it would cost Hoosiers more than $8 million per year. And this ol’ body does not like the changes either.
•Social Security: I understand Congress earlier this year voted and gave themselves a raise. But we did not get any raise. And they say there will be no raise in 2011. Is that fair? And they say Social Security is going broke. But they don’t mention why. The last figure I heard was that the U.S. government has more than $3 trillion in IOUs to the fund. And yet Congress gets a raise. The money in the Social Security Trust Fund does not belong to the government, it belongs to the American people.
•Cell phones: Some time ago I wrote our local member of the House (of Representatives) that I thought phones should not be allowed to be used by the driver as long as the vehicle was moving. His answer was the bill did not get out of committee. I personally think that is his job, to get it out of the committee. How many accidents are caused by this problem? Ask the state police or your local police. How many deaths in Indiana this year? Observe the oncoming traffic as you drive. It’s ridiculous.
I soon will be in my 80s, but yet I have to show my identification card to buy alcohol. We can send our young men and women into combat, but they cannot buy alcohol until they are 21 years of age. Does not make sense to this old veteran. Is that what they mean when they say freedom is not free?
Lastly, I think it is time to put term limits on our elected officials and give this country back to the American people and let them decide what they would like.
