Public hearing held on migrant housing (07/19/06)
Geneva Town Council
GENEVA — Geneva Town Council members and citizens heard a special presentation Tuesday by Steve Austin, governmental affairs representative for Red Gold, during a public hearing for housing units which are being proposed for construction for migrant workers.
The meeting comes a week after Red Gold announced that it plans to build new housing for seasonal workers. Red Gold is seeking a $500,000 grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, with an additional $50,000 to be added to that figure by Red Gold.
Tuesday’s meeting was only a public hearing for the project.
In other business, the council approved the appointment of a new deputy marshal.
Brad Schwartz, Berne, will replace Jason Oswalt. Schwartz is a former reserve officer for the Adams County Sheriff’s Department and is currently a reserve for the Geneva Police Department.
The council also accepted a bid from Ken Kunkle Chevrolet of Portland for a used 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer as a new police vehicle. The vehicle will be acquired for $18,800, including trade-in of a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer that had served as the primary police vehicle. The Trailblazer has 6,200 miles.
The council also:
•Read and approved the second reading of Ordinance 2006-6, adopting supplement to code of ordinances.
•Approved claims against the Town of Geneva.
•Took no action on the rental of Annex Building because another appraisal is required.[[In-content Ad]]
