Put out the welcome mat (8/22/05)

Opinion

We say the same thing about this time every year.

But that’s because it needs to be said.

Company is coming.

Over the next several days, Jay County will be host to tens of thousands of folks from all over the globe, drawn here by their love of old engines, old tractors, antiques, and a connection to our agricultural heritage.

For some, it will be a pilgrimage they’ve made often. Talk to early arrivals at the Jay County Fairgrounds and you’ll find people who have been attending the Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association’s annual show for decades. It doesn’t take too much searching to find folks who have attended for more than 25 of the show’s 40 years.

For others, however, this is their first visit. And first impressions are often the most lasting.

Our advice is to greet every visitor as if it’s their first time in Jay County. Make the best impression possible with hospitality, courtesy, and going the extra mile to make people feel welcome.

That way, whether it’s their first visit or their thirtieth, you’ve put the county’s best foot forward. — J.R.[[In-content Ad]]
