Put waiting period on proposal
Letters to the Editor
On the front page of Friday's edition of The Commercial Review, I found a headline "Medler not happy with memorial to Quadrozzi" in an inset. After reading the ensuing article, I feel compelled to submit the following thoughts.
As reported, the mayor has discussed his idea with family members of the late Mr. Quadrozzi, and, as would be expected from family members, "they gave the thumbs up on the idea."
I have no doubt that the mayor's intentions were good, but it is requisite to point out the following. It is indeed safe to say that the late Mr. Quadrozzi was, at the very least, what one could easily refer to as a somewhat polarizing figure around Jay County.
He certainly had his ardent supporters, but rest assured, he had his detractors as well, as any public figure does. Perhaps it would be a good idea to handle the naming of this park in the same manner that The U.S. Postal Service awards the high honor of being on a postage stamp. They require a 10-year wait.
This allows enough time to pass to see just how Mr. Quadrozzi's legacy will be judged with the passage of time. Yes, even Elvis Aaron Presley and Francis Albert Sinatra waited the requisite ten years, perhaps that would be good enough for the late Mr. Quadrozzi.
If we have a burning desire to name it right now, this writer would suggest someone who gave all for entirely selfless reasons, The late Andrew Whitacre comes to mind as a worthy and fitting choice to me. Sincerely and respectfully submitted,

How will he vote?
To the editor:
A recent Rasmussen poll shows that 60 percent of Indiana residents oppose Obama Care. 8th district Representative Brad Ellsworth is the only Democrat running for Evan Bayh's open Senate seat.
Ellsworth already voted for the House version of the bill and will soon be asked to vote for the Senate version complete with a $500 billion cut in Medicare, federal funding for abortion, health insurance increases, the Louisiana purchase, and the Corn Husker kick back.
Now, as a Senate candidate, will he represent the people of Indiana or vote with the arrogant elitists who think they are smarter than the people who elected them?
