Questions raised on county roads

Letters to the editor

On Feb. 23 (Wednesday) I went for a drive through and around the northern part of Jay County, as they were saying on the radio station the roads were very icy and slick for the second day of this small winter storm that caused the cancellation of school.
For both days, county highway department trucks were driving around and scraping with the under-body blades very little; mostly just driving around. Why can’t they spread sand on paved roads and a thin layer of stone on stone roads? I know the road I live on could use gravel anyhow.
And if they can’t afford to put sand and stone on the roads, then how can they afford to just drive around doing nothing?

To the editor:
February was Children of Alcoholics month. In today’s society, we have many children suffering in their own homes. Parents are not taking proper care of their children because all the parents are concerned about is drinking.
We have children that are not getting the proper nutrition that they need to stay healthy because of their parents’ substance abuse. In many cases they are not showering on a daily basis and are forced to wear clothes with holes or that are dirty.
Children of alcoholics are more likely to experience abuse in their lifetime. Often society wonders why so many teens turn to drugs and/or alcohol and act out violently. Most of the time children who have experienced living in an environment where their parents are alcoholics end up following in their footsteps, or worse.
In my experience most juvenile delinquents that are in placement or a facility have experienced some kind of abuse and in most cases have witnessed their parents drinking. Most of these children have come from a broken home. Can you even begin to imagine what it has been like for these children?
If you know anyone who is an alcoholic and may be neglecting their children, please get help for them today. Don’t wait. Help make their situation better not only for themselves, but for their children, as well. No child should have to deal with the physical and emotional abuse that alcoholic parents can inflict.
