Reader cannot outsmart creator
Letter to the Editor
To the editor:
Concerning the same sex marriage issue, I have a dilemma.
I choose to believe the Bible, and the Bible says homosexuality, along with a lot of other behaviors, is sin. I know we do not like that word — sin — today, but remember, I said I choose to believe the Bible. Even if I did not believe the Bible, I see nothing in nature that would support the homosexual lifestyle. If there is, please point it out to me.
You, as a homosexual, say, ‘But I was born this way.’ But I could say that about everything the Bible calls sin in order to excuse all of my bad behavior.
Now, let me say here, I have never had to deal with the sin of homosexuality, but I sure have had to deal with a lot of other behaviors the Bible calls sin.
You can say, let’s get off this sin thing, we are talking about all citizens having equal rights. And therein lies my dilemma.
How do I vote against HJR 3 without condoning something I believe to be wrong?
I am sorry, maybe you can see a way through this, but I can’t. I can no longer say, ‘Yeah, yeah, I know what the Bible says, but … .’ I used to be able to do that, but slowly and surely I have found I cannot outsmart my creator.
One last point. You can say HJR 3 is discriminatory, but I would suggest there have been very few laws passed that did not discriminate against somebody. Life is not fair.
