Reader defends CR columnist
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank The Commercial Review for affording me the pleasure of reading Leonard Pitts’ honest and forthright columns for the past 15 years. I have found Mr. Pitts’ columns to display the highest of journalistic ethics, with a flair for principled wisdom equaled by no other journalist — with or without a political agenda.
In my opinion, Leonard Pitts is the antithesis of those loose cannons, Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh, two media morons who espouse racism at the least and anti-Americanism at the most as part of their daily diatribes.
In a recent letter to the editor, a reader suggested that to obtain the complete truth, you must watch FOX news. In my experience, the best thing FOX does is tell its listeners what they want to hear. What they want to hear isn’t always based on facts — at least on FOX.
This was most recently demonstrated when a government worker of African-American descent was pilloried for refusing a white farmer a loan, was accused of racism and terminated at the behest of Bill O’Reilly and others.
Ironically, when the facts came out, the lady was practically martyred, given her job back and, wonder of wonders, apologized to by none other than Bill O’Reilly.
FOX finally got one right.

Too much?
To the editor:
“Stimulus package.” Do the American people know what this means?
It means something that excites to action.
Is this why our federal, state, city and county keep getting pay raises?
This is why our country is in the shape it is in. Someday we will be all working for China.
A 2 percent pay raise is not bad for the lower pay scale. Too much for the higher scale like the president’s pay or those corporate CEOs.
I worked 55 years of my life and there was many times myself and other employees had to take pay cuts to keep our jobs.
Now, living on Social Security and a small pension, I don’t get an increase, but our government still spends, spends, spends.
When will it stop?

No mercy
To the editor:
I would like to respond to the letter dated July 9, 2010. Jay County didn’t bring your son over for a summer vacation. He broke the law. You do the crime … shut up and do the time.
I think the conditions are too good. They keep going back for more.
I think they need to implement the chain gang.
The county wouldn’t have a problem with over-crowded conditions at the Jay County Hilton.
