The column will be short and sweet this week with just two questions from our readers. Let’s start with Indiana University men’s basketball.

Who are the main obstacles for the Hoosiers in the Big Ten and in the national title outlook?
—Josh Gibson, Portland

The Big Ten is loaded with good coaches, which will make life challenging for the Hoosiers. The conference has four other teams — Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and Wisconsin — ranked in the top 25 of the preseason coaches’ poll.
This may come as a surprise to some, given that I am a Buckeye fan, but I put the Wolverines on the top of that list. They return their top two scorers from last season and add Indiana All-Star Glenn Robinson III to the mix.
In terms of the national title picture, I’m going to stay away from the usual suspects and say North Carolina State will be in the mix at the end of the season. I like teams with experience, and the Wolfpack has it with junior C.J. Leslie leading the way.

What is the highest total offense Jay County has recorded in a game?
—Nathan Miller,
Indianapolis

This wasn’t one I was able to find a definitive answer to, although Patriot football coach Steve Boozier and his staff are planning to do some research on JCHS stats.
In my years at The Commercial Review, two games stand out. One of those happened this season, when Jay County racked up 560 yards — all on the ground — in a 40-6 win over Blackford. But that is not the record.
The Patriots finished with 580 yards, including 433 passing from Billy Wellman, against Muncie Southside in a 63-54 loss in 2008. The Rebels had 671 yards as the teams combined to set the state record for total yards.
