Redkey council gets organized
Redkey Town Council

REDKEY — Jon Davis was elected to serve as vice president of the Redkey Town Council at a brief special meeting Thursday night.
The vote was unanimous, as council president Jim Funkhouser explained that it was important to name a new vice president as soon as possible and get the council reorganized after two veteran council members resigned in March.
Those two council members, Terri Taylor and Phil Philebaum, were replaced earlier this month by Democratic Party appointees Kyle Champ and Joe Johnson.
Also at Thursday night’s meeting, Funkhouser said that new departmental assignments for council members should be made soon.
However, Funkhouser said that he wanted to delay action on that issue Thursday to allow for more time to consider the various options.
Decisions on which council members will supervise which departments will probably be made during council meeting Thursday at 6 p.m.
In other business Thursday night, Funkhouser said that Gerald Kirby has agreed to chair the Redkey Citizens Advisory Board for the sewer separation project.
Redkey has been under an agreed order with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management for more than a year to work to separate its storm and sanitary sewer systems and eliminate combined sewer overflows in the town.
Kirby, a Redkey resident, served as wastewater treatment superintendent for several municipalities.
Funkhouser said other members of the committee will be former town council president Doug Stanley, as well as Joe Anderson, Gene Stigleman, Jeff Miller, Violet Erlenbush, Bill Tressler and Funkhouser.
Also the town council president reported that he is interested in finding volunteers who are willing to serve on the Redkey Park Board. He encouraged any interested residents to contact him or come to next Thursday’s town council meeting.
“The more involvement by interested residents, the better off we are,” Funkhouser said.[[In-content Ad]]
