Redkey hears street complaints
Redkey Town Council
REDKEY - Several residents presented complaints about the condition of East Logan Street, which was torn up during the water improvement project, to the Redkey Town Board Thursday night.
"It had a lot of damage to it during the construction of our water project," said clerk-treasurer Sandy Kirby this morning, who said residents were claiming they "can't hardly drive on it."
The road, however, may have to go without repair until the town can pay for it, since the state has made no moves to fix the street.
"We had been advised by INDOT that, as of this point in time, they're not going to be able to help us ... because it wasn't the designated (detour) route during the construction."
Kirby said town board members will look into pricing to repair the street and may put off other road repairs to prioritize Logan Street.
Board members reviewed a quote from Lica Construction to repair George Street at a cost of $15,595.
Kirby said the board is contemplating "holding off doing that so maybe we could get Logan Street repaired."
In other business Thursday, the town board:
•Discussed additional coverage for police reserves with the town's insurance agent.
The town board agreed to look into an accident and sickness policy for those volunteer reserve officers.
•Approved purchase of T-shirts for the D.A.R.E. program at Redkey Elementary School at a cost of $190.
•Were informed that full-time police officer Donnie Miller is resigning. Miller is resigning to seek employment elsewhere.
The town board will meet in an executive session Tuesday for an employee evaluation.
•Were informed that hydrants will be flushed Monday through Wednesday. Residents may experience rusty water during that time.
•Informed the public that the Redkey fireworks display will be held July 3 and the fire department truck pull will be June 26.
•Appointed Jim Funkhouser to head up an effort to clearly number houses that will help emergency crews more quickly identify addresses during responses.[[In-content Ad]]
