Redkey man making bid as independent (03/03/07)
The father of a Redkey man whose petition to run for a seat on Redkey's Town Council was denied Thursday, has filed a petition to run for the council seat as an Independent.
"Watermellon" Jim Phillips, a resident of 605 W. Main St., filed Friday in the office of the Jay County Clerk to gain one of three seats up for election on the council this year and listed his party as Independent.
A petition by Phillips' son, James Clayton Phillips, a Democrat, was disqualified by the Jay County Election Board on Thursday after it was determined at the time he filed that he did not live at the address he had listed, a requirement of Indiana statutes governing local political candidates.
Redkey residents wishing to file to run for a seat on the council have until July 2 to do so, clerk Jane Ann Runyon said Friday.[[In-content Ad]]
