Redkey Optimists: Thanks for support (09/28/06)

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

The Redkey Optimist Club wants to thank everyone who has supported us through our first year.

We had a pancake breakfast that was a success, and also a fish fry.

We presented four free movies this summer, along with the Portland Jazz Band and a play directed by local school teacher Amanda Olmstead. We have many more events scheduled.

The Optimist Club is an organization that does so many things for young kids. Thank you for your support. You should all be proud. We are.

Special thanks goes to Mike Shannon for the use of his parking lot for the movies to be shown. The Redkey Fire Department must also have praise for the help they have given.

If you want to join the Redkey Optimist Club, come to the meetings the first and second Tuesdays of the month at 7 p.m. at the Key Palace Theatre.

Looking forward to meeting you for a worthwhile cause.

Thank yous

To the editor:

I want to take this time to thank some very special people in my life. Thank you Jenny Williams, her son D.J. and wife Jennifer, her daughter Dawn and granddaughter Amanda, and her sister Teresa Davis.

I live in Oklahoma and still have my home outside of Albany and will be coming home this spring to live there again.

My renter left my home a mess, with grass grown up so bad it needed bush hogging and inside was a mess as well.

I know it was hard and back breaking for all of you. These very special friends of mine I called were there the next day mowing and cleaning and spent lots of hours doing all that for me.

It took two weeks for them to get it looking nice again. I couldn't come home to help because I had just had surgery and they took a look at the place and jumped in and did it all.

You don't know how much that meant to Jim and I. It was one of the nicest things anyone ever did for us in our time of need and boy did I need them. Jim will retire from the glass factory in the spring and when we move back they said they wanted to help us then also because the house is going to need work done to it. Now those are true friends. I wish the world could be more like that because it would be a better place. I can't wait to get back home in Indiana because the friends and family I love are there. Again I want to thank you all for what you have done for Jim and I and we love you all.

Good job

To the editor:

My family and I would like to thank Harriett and Andrea Weekly and Tom Johnson for a fun-filled summer at the pool.

It was the best it has been in some time. I found them to be thoughtful and courteous to all. If discipline was needed, it was taken care of. Of course there is always someone that thinks the rules don't apply to them, thus continuing to break the rules.

This community pool is just about all we have left in this town our children can have fun at. If rules aren't obeyed we will lose it.

Parents, talk with your children before sending them to the pool. There are rules and they should be taken seriously. The rules are there to protect your children and keep them safe.

Hats off to Harriett and Andrea for putting forth the effort and time of managing the pool. It's not a easy job at times. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Brad, Jackie, Kendra

and Nathan Patterson
