Redkey water deadline set for Saturday (03/28/06)
Redkey Town Council
By By ROBERT BANSER-
REDKEY — Council members have agreed on a plan of action for collecting past-due water and sewer bills.
After granting a reprieve at the last regular town council session and noting that about 80 property owners owed $90,000 in delinquent water bills, Redkey council members Monday set Saturday as the date to send out disconnect notices to residents who have not paid their current bills from the approximate time when Sandy Kirby was appointed clerk-treasurer in the community.
Council members defined current bills as those dating from November, 2005, to the present time. Payments through those dates should be current or water service will be shut off, Kirby explained.
She added that persons with delinquent accounts, dating back before last November, will be asked to contact town attorney John Brooke to make payment arrangements.
In other business at Monday night’s meeting, councilman James Guffey submitted his resignation, effective Friday. He said he was resigning for personal reasons.
His term expires at the end of this year.
He is the only Republican on the town council, and his replacement for the remainder of the term will be selected by Redkey’s GOP precinct committeemen, Kirby said.
So far no Republicans have filed to run for the town council in this year’s election. Guffey had been appointed to fill the unexpired term of Brenda Collett on the town council.
In other business Monday night, council members:
•Discussed the town’s insurance policy which is coming up for renewal on April 21. A decision is expected to be made at the next regular council session on April 20, Kirby said.
•Heard the town’s consulting engineer, Chad Ducey of Werks Management LLC, Fishers, explain and answer questions about the West Main Street water main project. He and town employee Greg McIlwain said that town equipment is being used to help expedite the project. This was part of the bid specifications for the work.
•Talked about the possibility of refinancing the town’s current sewer bond issue. The next payment on the bond issue is due May 1, Kirby said. She noted that Brooke had been directed to take steps necessary to refinance the bond issue over a longer period of time and further discussion of that matter is scheduled for the April 20 regular meeting.
•Discussed the need for repairs to the town’s water tower as well as any possible grants which may be available for such a project.[[In-content Ad]]
