Redskin spikers stun Fort Recovery again (10/12/05)

FORT RECOVERY — St. Henry is making a habit out of breaking the Indians’ hearts.
The Division IV No. 6 Redskins, who have eliminated Fort Recovery from tournament play in each of the last two seasons, handed the Tribe another devastating loss Tuesday, 18-25, 20-25, 25-17, 25-23, 18-16.
Fort Recovery (12-8, 3-4 Midwest Athletic Conference) was the only team to take the eventual state champion Redskins to five games in the state tournament last season, only to drop the final game 15-11. On their home floor the Indians grabbed the first two games against St. Henry (16-5, 7-1 MAC) Tuesday before losing the final three, with the final two defeats coming by just two points.
Tiff Gaerke led the near upset, racking up a team-best 25 kills. She also had 16 digs, eight points and five blocks.
Kelly Link finished with nine kills and six blocks, and Kinsey Wenning also had nine kills. Brittany Brackman scored 10 points, and Julie Link had nine points.
Jennalee Post put up 46 assists, and Vicki Roessner had 17 digs.
Junior varsity
Sarah Braun notched team highs in digs, kills and blocks, but it was not enough as the Fort Recovery junior varsity team lost just its fourth match of the season 25-23, 25-10 to St. Henry.
Braun finished with nine digs, five kills and two blocks for the Indians (13-4, 4-3 MAC). She also had two points.
Heather Schmackers had nine assists, four digs and two points, and Annie Koesters finished with four digs, two kills and two points. Joanna Snyder totaled a team-high six points to go along with two kills.
Freshman
Fort Recovery’s freshman volleyball team slipped back to .500 with a 25-17, 25-14 loss to the Versailles Tigers.
The Indians (7-7) got five points and three kills from Chelsea Klenke and four kills and two blocks by Kelly Sudhoff. Melissa Tobe scored three points.
Junior high
NEW BREMEN, Ohio — A pair of Indians combined to lead the seventh grade team to victory in its final match 25-18, 25-20 over the New Bremen Cardinals. The Fort Recovery eighth graders also defeated New Bremen, 25-13, 25-22.
Brunswick and Thien each finished with nine points and four kills as the seventh grade Indians closed at 8-7. Nichole Kaiser followed with eight points.
Nicole Pottkotter scored 10 points for the eighth grade team, which improved to 13-2. Lorraine Shier had five points, Sylvia Schwieterman notched five kills and Jessica Taylor had three kills.[[In-content Ad]]
