Redskins end another Fort season at 1-9 (10/29/06)
FRHS football
FORT RECOVERY - If it all seemed familiar to the fans at Barrenbrugge Athletic Park, it was.
For the fourth consecutive year, the football season for the Fort Recovery Indians ended with a loss to powerhouse St. Henry which left the host team with a 1-9 record.
The Indians, unable to stop the Redskins on the ground or through the air, and unable to muster up much offense of their own, were beaten 56-0 Friday night to close out the 2006 campaign.
For St. Henry, which improves to 9-1, it's on to the playoffs. The Redskins were No. 3 in Ohio's latest Division V poll.
St. Henry erased any hopes of a Fort Recovery upset - or even a close game - early, scoring four times in the first quarter.
Redskin running back Andy Puthoff ran for TDs of 25 and 12 yards in the opening period, which also saw quarterback Doug Griesdorn connect for scoring passes of 37 and 15 yards to Ryan Hartke.
Ryan Huwer, who paced the Redskins' offense with 118 yards on just eight rushing attempts, also ran for a pair of touchdowns for St. Henry in the second period as it cruised to a 42-0 halftime advantage.
Fort Recovery, which had 115 yards of total offense, was paced by Matt Tobe, who carried the ball 17 times for 57 yards.
In a game played in a steady rain and chilly conditions, the Indians tried but couldn't muster much success in the passing game. Toby Metzger completed 7-of-22 passes for 56 yards and one interception, while Fort's Greg Kahlig was 1-for-3 for negative two yards and one interception.
Griesdorn's only two attempts were the scoring completions to Hartke, while the Redskins' Brad Stahl completed his only pass to Tony Stahl for a 60-yard touchdown early in the third period.[[In-content Ad]]
