Redskins stomp the Fort in finale (10/25/03)
FRHS football
FORT RECOVERY — All the excitement the Fort Recovery offense could muster Friday night was spent in the opening minutes of the first quarter, after that, it was silent the rest of the night.
Junior running back Greg Faller busted loose for a 65-yard touchdown run early in the first quarter to give the Indians (1-9, 0-8 MAC) the early advantage against St. Henry, but the Redskins (5-5, 4-5 MAC) came back to score 38 unanswered points en route to the 38-7 victory.
And while the Indian offense was trying to get back into the end zone, the defense was having no luck slowing the Redskin running attack.
St. Henry managed 321 yards on the ground for the night, and averaged nearly eight yards every time it carried the football.
The Redskins bounced back from Faller’s run with a pair of their own first-quarter touchdowns — a 6-yard pass from Nathan Stahl to Bryan Post and a 10-yard run by Jon Hemmelgarn.
Faller finished with 60 yards rushing on five carries. Indian quarterback Mark Willmann, who had a better day with his legs than he did with this arm, ended the game with 45 yards rushing on five carries and only five yards on 2-for-12 passing with an interception.
St. Henry led 31-7 at halftime after another pair of touchdowns and a 26-yard field goal by Jon Cline.
The Redskins’ Jeremy Schwieterman opened the third quarter with a 23-yard touchdown to complete the scoring for the evening.
Fort Recovery’s offense was outgained by a 341-172 margin, and the Redskins managed a total of 16 first downs compared to five by the Indians.
Neither team qualified to the state tournament, which will begin with first-round action next week.[[In-content Ad]]
