Remember real meaning of Christmas (12/01/05)

Letter to the Editor

To the editor:

I think enough is enough.

Are all Christians asleep?

It seems as though the atheists, agnostics and anti-Christs don’t have a problem using the Christmas season to fleece the Christians; they just don’t want to recognize Jesus so they refuse to print in their advertising or allow their employees to say “Christmas” or “Merry Christmas.”

They don’t want to “offend” people who aren’t Christian.

Does that mean they don’t care if they offend those of us who are Christian? Those of us who have so faithfully supported them as they grew and became great?

I just don’t understand why they are so afraid to stand up for our country and the God who was so revered during the founding of this country.

You don’t think so?

The nation’s capitol is laid out in a cross; White House to the North, the Jefferson Memorial to the South, the Capitol to the East and the Lincoln Memorial to the West.

The stone buildings are covered with carvings of scriptures and statuary depicting Biblical figures. All of the time that Thomas Jefferson was president he attended church in the building of the House of Representatives (a government building) and the US Marine Band played there every Sunday. Government sessions have been opened and closed with prayer since the beginning of our nation’s government.

What I’m trying to say is; Christ and God have been a part of our society’s very back bone and strength from the beginning.

In exaggeration I say if stores are afraid of offending someone by saying Christmas why don’t they abandon Christmas altogether? Let those that you are afraid of offending know that you aren’t offering all of these things for sale as Christmas gifts by posting large signs on the front of your stores that say, “we don’t sell Christmas gifts here, we don’t believe in Christmas.” What we sell are only holiday gifts and anyone who purchases any of these items to give as Christmas gifts is in strict violation of our rules and may be prosecuted.

Does that sound silly? Of course it does and so does being afraid of offending anyone who is so narrow minded as to find fault with a tradition of the majority of United States citizens which is not immoral, indecent, or illegal (yet). If people want something to complain about why not attack the nudity and obscene body gestures on TV, magazine ads, and yes, even in stores?

Or better yet find a country that don’t do Christmas instead of trying to tear down one that does celebrate Christmas.

The American Family Association has supplied at least a partial list of stores who have opted to take Christmas out of their stores and store advertising, here is some of it; Target, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Kmart/Sears, Costco, Kohl’s and Lowe’s.

If your don’t like this practice, tell them.

I, for one, will go out of my way to find what I want at a store that still cares for American traditions, which include openly celebrating Christmas.

Just to show you where my heart is I want to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas, even if you don’t like it.
