Resident challenges vandal (07/18/2008)

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

Just a note to say mail boxes on 200 South and 200 West were hit again.

What is this mentality that things need to be destroyed to think one is having fun?

We pick up the paper every day and read where yard items, bikes, scooters, porch chairs, bedding from the hotels, windows and doors broken, cars and trucks damaged, tires slashed, purse and wallets taken, stealing from Wal-Mart and other stores, mail boxes smashed and even Bambi the baby deer was shot on private property. Is this all asinine? What part of no destroy is not understood by this group of ... (I have to restrain myself from name calling) but you all get the message.

Get a life. Leave other peoples property alone. Does this mean you would like to have these things done to your home?

What is needed is a attitude adjustment and a JOB.

Now this job does not have to have monetary payment. How about taking a very large garbage bag and pick up along the road side in town and country. And while you're at it, put your own trash in the bag. Maybe you could mow or do yard work for older persons or physically challenged person.

Go to the parks, ball diamonds and police the grounds. Sign up for a class at the library, arts center, John Jay, go to the community center work out or sign up for a class while you are there. Sign up for summer classes at school even if you do not need the extra credits to graduate. One cannot get too much education. There are always new things on the horizon and it is fun to learn.

Sign up for 4-H, scouts, sports, Optimists, Lions, Kiwanis, a church program...

Clean the car, wash windows, paint the trim, fix the steps, clean your bed room, closet or garage.

Call a friend that you have not been in touch with for a long time, call someone hurting or needs a warm hello. I hope I never hear I AM BORED from anyone in Jay County.

We have company coming - bike show, fair, tractor and engine show. Let us all show a real Jay county welcome and hospitably. Get out of the DO DAMAGE mode and care about yourself and others. Respect for self and others is needed this very day.

I love Jay County and want it to be a No. 1 county.

P.S. - Did you know that hidden cameras are near mail boxes that take pictures and get license numbers?

Foundation thanks

To the editor:

The Pennville Endowment committee would like to thank the Pennville community for their generosity and support in helping us raise our matching funds goal.

We especially would like to thank those contributing to and participating in our pie toss at the Pennville Legion - Lions Fair last week. The community spirit was wonderful as we all had some old-fashioned fun. Also, we would like to thank the fair committee for their support.

We are continuing our fundraising so watch for our future events including a booth at the Pennville Fall Jubilee on October 18.

Yours Truly,

Betty Drinkut, for The Pennville Endowment Committee[[In-content Ad]]
