Residents may get drug discount (12/05/06)
Jay County Commissioners
By By MARY ANN LEWIS-
Jay County residents may soon be able to save a little money on prescriptions, thanks to the Jay County Commissioners.
Counties throughout the state that join the National Association of Counties will be able to provide their residents a plan through Caremark that can reduce the cost of prescription drugs by as much as 20 percent.
Commissioners Milo Miller Jr., Gary Theurer, and Faron Parr learned of the plan at the Indiana Commissioners' Conference, held last week in Indianapolis.
While commissioners are members of the Indiana Association of Counties, Miller said local officials had not been members of the national association for several years.
Dues to become members of the national association are $450 annually, Miller said.
"We need to join this," he said.
The discounted price would be available to any county resident who does not have a prescription drug coverage plan. Plans call for making the applications available at local drug stores.
Miller said the county should be receiving a marketing package in the next six to eight weeks, and following a series of advertisements, it will be made available locally.
Miller noted that seven counties in the state are currently enrolled in the plan, but several more have indicated they will soon be joining.
Additionally Monday, at the recommendation of Jay County Clerk Jane Ann Runyon, commissioners appointed Stephen Fennig to the Bearcreek Township Advisory Board, and Steve Rines to the Wayne Township Advisory Board.
The two appointments fill vacancies on those boards, Runyon explained. Fennig and Rines had previously been members on those boards, but did not seek re-election in the recent election.
"If they don't want to be on the board," Miller said, "they'll have to submit letters of resignation."[[In-content Ad]]
