Reynard 7th at Shamrock invite
Collegiate Check-up
While many college students were enjoying a relaxing spring break at Myrtle Beach, Brandon Reynard was running for the Warriors.
Reynard, a 2009 Jay County High School graduate, ran in two events for the Indiana Tech men’s track team as it opened its outdoor season March 14 through 16 at the Shamrock Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina.
The senior turned in a seventh-place effort in a field of 75 runners in the 400-meter hurdles. He finished with a time of 53.32 seconds, trailing sixth-place runner Andre Peart of Purdue by just five hundredths of a second.
He also teamed with Nick Radionoff, Matt Adair and Seth Spangler for a time of 7 minutes, 47.32 seconds, for fifth in the 4x800 relay.
Joanna Snyder
Ft. Recovery – 2009
Continued to bring in awards for her senior season on the women’s basketball team at Ohio Northern University.
Snyder was named to the honorable mention list for the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Division III All-America team, and was also named to the All-Great Lakes Regional second team by D3hoops.com. She broke the 1,000-point barrier this season while averaging 13.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
Danielle Wellman
Wapahani – 2012
Smacked the first home run of her collegiate career March 8 in the Grace College softball team’s 10-4 victory over Lourdes.
Wellman, who played for Jay County for two years before transferring to Wapahani, smacked a home run for the Lancers (4-10) as part of a 2-for-5 performance with two RBIs and a run. The catcher was also 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run and an RBI March 8 in a 10-4 loss to Clarke.
She has started every game for Grace this season and is hitting .386 with a team-high 17 RBIs.
Katie Simmons
Jay County – 2012
Competed in a pair of events for the IPFW women’s track team March 14 and 15 at the Bulls Invitational hosted by South Florida.
Simmons ran the steeplechase for the first time in her career, finishing the 3,000-meter event in 11 minutes, 59.03 seconds for third place. She was also sixth in the 3,000 run with a time of 10:33.91.
Billy Wellman
Jay County – 2009
Contributed to the Ball State University baseball team’s winning streak with a big game Friday against Taylor.
Wellman went 2-for-2 with a double in an 11-0 victory for the Cardinals (10-8), who have won five in a row over Harvard, IPFW and Taylor. He also had a walk, a run and an RBI.
Greg Kahlig
Fort Recovery – 2010
Was named to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men’s basketball first team.
Kahlig, a junior at the University of Findlay, averaged a team-best 17 points per game this season while shooting 44 percent from 3-point range and 85 percent from the foul line. He also averaged 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists.
Brianna Nevil
South Adams – 2012
Scored a run in each game Tuesday in the Hesston College softball team’s doubleheader sweep of Hutchinson.
Nevil had a single, two RBIs and a run as the Larks (3-4) dominated the second game of the doubleheader 9-1. She finished with a hit and a run in Hesston’s 6-5 win in the opener.
Kendra Brunswick
Fort Recovery - 2011
Earned all-league first-team honors in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference.
Brunswick, who is a sophomore on the women’s basketball team at Edison Community College, scored 17.2 points per game to lead the Chargers this season. She hit 35 3-pointers and also averaged 5.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists.
Drew Houck
Jay County – 2011
Played in the season opener for the Indiana University East men’s golf team Saturday at the Brescia University Spring Shootout.
Houck posted a 94 for the Red Wolves in the tournament at My Old Kentucky Home Golf Course. IU East placed third with a team score of 320.[[In-content Ad]]
