MARION — Brandon Reynard was one of the best high-school hurdlers in the state of Indiana. Now he’s one of the best in the nation.
The 2009 Jay County High School graduate and Indiana Tech junior improved every time he stepped on the track at the National Association of Intercollege Athletics Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Indiana Wesleyan on the way to a sixth-place finish Saturday in the the finals of the 400-meter hurdles.
Reynard, who placed fifth in the 300 hurdles at the Indiana state meet during his junior season at JCHS, turned in a time of 53.81 seconds in the preliminary round at the NAIA championships. He dropped his time to 52.66 in the semifinal round to earn a spot in the finals, and then posted a time of 52.29 for his sixth-place finish.
He was just one hundredth of a second behind fifth-place Ryan Versen of Cornerstone. Point Loma’s Sean Lewis won the title at 50.97 seconds.
Reynard also teamed with D’Quan Ruth, Jordan Foster and Austen Barnes to finish third in the 4x400 relay in 3 minutes, 11.22 seconds.[[In-content Ad]]
