Ride supporters thanked
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
Once again the people of Jay County has shown tremendous “Support for the Troops”. The 3rd Annual L.Cpl Andrew F Whitacre Memorial Ride was held June 23, 2012. We had around 150 bikes of all kinds! We are so thankful that we had a beautiful day and so many people turned out.
This year’s event raised $5951.14. We would like to say Thank you to all the local merchants that donated items to be auctioned off or put in the drawings. Thanks to all of those who made items to donate, especially Lee Addington, for the awesome Harley bench he made. Thanks to all of the volunteers who helped cook and serve, who worked at registration, who cleaned, collected items, baked brownies, helped check in riders at the stops, and handed out door prizes. Thanks to Chad Chowning for the Memorial to Matt and Andrew, it is truly beautiful! Thanks to our families, our friends, co-workers, WOTM and Moose Lodge for having us again.
Also a big thanks to all that serve in the military, and our Veterans who have served, and those who have gave their life so that we may be able to have events like this and be able to participate. Let’s not forget them!
Next year’s Memorial Ride will be June 16th, 2013. We hope that next year’s ride will be as big or even bigger than this year.
I am sending this letter with the deepest of sympathy for the Taylor family of Berne, with the recent loss of their son, Spc. Nicholas A Taylor. We know what they are going through not only on a personal level but as a community. Let us keep them in our thoughts and prayers.
