Rigby, Wolves head to tourney

Collegiate Check-up

Tyler Rigby’s 30-point effort was not quite enough to lift the Indiana University East men’s basketball team to the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title. But the Red Wolves season as a whole was still impressive enough to earn them a berth in the national tournament.
Rigby, a 2006 Jay County High School graduate, and his IU East teammates will play Indiana Wesleyan (26-7) in the opening round of the NAIA Division II Tournament March 9 in Point Lookout, Mo. The team finished 23-9 and earned the 12th and final at-large bid to the tournament’s field of 32 teams.
In the KIAC championship game Saturday, Rigby shot just under 60 percent from the field (14-of-25) on the way to leading the Red Wolves in scoring in a 91-85 loss to No. 21 IU Southeast. He also had six rebounds and a steal.
The senior totaled 12 points, eight rebounds, three steals and an assist Feb. 24 in an 87-63 victory over Berea in the semifinal round of the tournament.
IU East’s tournament games will be streamed live at www.watchnaia.com, and the radio broadcast will be available online at www.930whon.com.
