Rights are dwindling

Letters to the Editor

To the Editor,
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” — First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America.
One of these days this country (the people that live in it) are going to wake up and say “What happened?”
Just a little change here and a little change there and what do you know, our freedoms are all gone.
Referring to your article on page 1 of the Thursday, February 21 paper, concerning the teacher suspended for anti-gay comments. What about her freedom of speech?
I served in the U.S. Navy and I took an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States (among other things) and give my life if necessary to do so. What does that mean? I know what it meant to me: “I may not believe or agree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”
Read that text again, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;”

The Freedom from Religion Foundation (Based in Madison, WI) and the ACLU are seeing to it that there can be no prayer in school because it would be the government establishing a religion, but how can the government agree with them and deny others their free exercise of religion, which would be the ability to pray in school and at school events?
The next portion of text says, “or abridging the freedom of speech.” Again there are a lot of things that I hear people say and do that I do not agree with but it is their right to say and do so. Now if I go ahead and tell you about those things I do not agree with will the Political Correct Police be on my doorstep to take me away in chains?
I think it is coming to that, but since I still may have a chance to do so let me express a few of these things. Since I am a Christian (that is the first thing that will get me in trouble or have you not noticed that the only religion that causes an uproar in the secular world is Christianity) I am against the following: 1. Abortion (because it is the killing of a human). 2. Drunkenness (because my sister and her husband were killed by a drunk driver, and other families lives are ruined). 3. Homosexuality or those that defile themselves with mankind. 4. Lawless and disobedient. 5. Ungodly and sinners. 6. Unholy and profane. 7. Liars and cheaters. Notice that these are all things that people do and I am against these things but not the people that do them. I love these people and pray that they will wake up and change before it is too late for them to do so.
Now back to the text, “or of the press;” (i.e. abridging the freedom of the press). This is the next in the list will it be the next to go. How much longer will you be able to print what you want to? And so on with the next in the list. Think about it.
Sincerely,
Max E. Blowers
