Roughia, HU open with win (01/19/08)

A Jay County graduate was in on one of the Huntington University women's track team's victory as it hosted the Frozen Forest meet Jan. 12 against Manchester.

Jill Roughia, a junior, teamed with Michelle Kyler, Bethan McGraw and Josann Schoeff to win the 4x200-meter relay in 3-minutes, 39.51 seconds as the Foresters defeated Manchester 63-46.

Roughia walso also second in the 1,600 run with a time of 5:59.2. She took third in the 800 run at 2:38.73.

Holly Stein

Fort Recovery - 2007

Posted her second highest scoring total of the season Jan. 12 as the Defiance women's basketball team topped Transylvania 80-68.

Stein buried a pair of 3-pointers as well as all of her seven free-throw attempts as she finished with 21 points. She added five rebounds, four assists and three steals in the win.

The freshman also contribued four points, six rebounds and an assist in the Yellow Jackets' 73-61 loss Wednesday at Franklin.

Tyler Niekamp

Fort Recovery - 2003

Totaled two points and a rebound Jan. 12 as the NCAA Division II No. 15 Findlay University men's basketball team clobbered Mercyhurst 71-42.

Niekamp also had one rebound and one steal Wednesday in a 71-64 victory over Central State.

Kurt Hess

Jay County - 2006

Fell just short in his second match as the Carson-Newman wrestling team lost twice Tuesday against Nebraska-Kearney and Wisconsin-Parkside.

Hess had a close call in the 149-pound match against Parkside, falling 6-4 to Ben Kreuzer. Nebraska-Kearney's Ryan Etherton pinned Hess in 20 seconds.[[In-content Ad]]
