BERNE - South Adams School Board members continue to weigh options on renovations to the high school in connection with the construction of the new kindergarten through grade eight facility next door.
Architect Jim Funk, who is working with Performance Services on the K-8 design/build project reviewed long-term goals and immediate needs for the board Tuesday night, and the board will spend a work session on the issue next Tuesday at 5:15 p.m.
Among the immediate needs cited by Funk are conversion of a general music classroom and an art room for middle school use, conversion of existing kitchen space into space for the athletic department, and relocating the school corporation's administrative offices into the high school building.
Long-term goals include creating an improved learning environment and developing a plan for sharing spaces between the high school and the middle school.
The current administrative offices on U.S. 27 are one of five properties the school corporation plans to sell through a process the board has set in motion.
The other four parcels are a 26-acre piece of land on Clark Street that's the site of an old football field, the elementary school property in Berne, the middle school property in Geneva, and a 10-acre piece of land used for athletic fields in Geneva.
The school corporation has an inter-local agreement with the town of Geneva for transfer of the 10-acre parcel.
In other business, the board:
•Accepted the resignation of Tami Steiner as varsity cheerleading coach effective at the end of the basketball season.
•Approved Josh Roby, Adam Zimmerman, and Katie Weaver as junior high track coaches; Jennifer White as junior high volunteer track coach; and Aimee Buckland as volunteer softball coach.
•Approved Margie Dobler as an after-school tutor for the remainder of a grant from the Adams County Community Foundation.
•Agreed to allow physical education credit for active participation in athletics and/or marching band.[[In-content Ad]]
