SA contract may be coming soon (11/15/06)
South Adams School Board
BERNE - South Adams superintendent Cathy Egolf is still hopeful a contract with the South Adams Teachers Association can be wrapped up soon, perhaps before Thanksgiving.
Egolf said today she is looking for a "win-win" contract that benefits both teachers and the school corporation. Teachers have been working under the terms of the 2001-2002 contract while negotiations were stalled.
The breakthrough came after Egolf's hiring when a new approach was tried. "It has been a phenomenal experience," Egolf said of the negotiation process.
The teachers' contract was not on the agenda for Tuesday's meeting of the South Adams School Board.
Instead, the board focused on revisions to the policy manual and a number of personnel matters.
Board policies have been under review by board member Stephen Dobler, who has found many existing policies to be obsolete or badly outdated. Revisions are being made to make the policies in accordance with Indiana law and current day-to-day operations of the school corporation.
In other business, the board:
• Hired Carylyn Hirschy as a part-time playground/cafeteria aide.
• Approved maternity leave for Kristi Geimer.
• Increased the junior high school tutoring staff to two full-time positions.
• Approved having Brent Lehman, Carol Cummings,. Daryl Yost, and Egolf attend a conference on 21st century schools in Indianapolis; having Heidi Lehman and Egolf attend the Art Education of Indiana fall conference in West Lafayette; having Pat Yake and Heather Kolar attend an Indianapolis conference for counselors; having Karen Martin and Gwen Habegger attend an Indianapolis conference for media educators; and having Cindy Cash attend the Hoosier Educational Computer Coordinators conference in Indianapolis.
• Declared a list of obsolete equipment as surplus so that it may be disposed of or sold.[[In-content Ad]]
